why didn't i pursue the case of that one relative
who verbally insulted me?
a part of me wanted so much to make it a case
of verbal abuse because i know i am protected
under the organisation.
however, i was being empathetic i guess.
the couple had just gotten a child after 10 years.
who am i to destroy that happiness?
so yes, i took the beating.
i admit, i was hurt and angry.
it was harsh. he shouted, he screamed,
hurled vulgarities
and pointed his fat fingers at me.
and it wasn't at all my fault.
i can tolerate impatient and annoying relatives.
but that...
that was too much.
my nursing manager made him apologise.
the insincerity in his voice made me walk away
without even acknowledging it.
as i recalled back this incident,
i can still feel the stinging pain
it left behind.
they say that experience will make you numb
to these bitter moments.
i beg to differ.
i believe that whether or not you're experienced,
you're still human. with feelings.
as nurses, we know how the society finds it difficult to respect us.
we do not demand so much,
maybe just showing a little respect will make us feel better.
an easy start would be pressing the call bell only when necessary.
