NOVEMBER MADNESS

having to go through the
Critical and Emergency Preparedness
Nursing Course organised by
Singhealth Alice Lee
Institute of Advanced Nursing
is a damn serious business.

saying the full course name
can make a person go breathless.
what more having to be put through it?

it's tiring.
both mentally and physically.
neverending lectures,
clinical attachments to various
disaster wards like A&E,
Burns Unit and MICU
plus an exam on December 11th.
eh not funny lah okayyyy.
some more still need to go back
and work at the ward in between the course dates.

then it got me thinking...
I CAN'T AFFORD TO COMPLAIN.
i'd be in a similar situation when
i start my Degree course come February 2010.

on top of the stressful workload
that the ward and the patients
has bestowed upon us,
the organisation has decided
to kindly invite auditors
to come pester us with questions
regarding our management structure
and god-knows-what.
previous years, we've dealt with
Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation.
this year, it's a whole new audit;
MAGNET Audit.
i have yet to find out the full term yada yada.

some of the ward people have been
selected as the Magnet Champions.
yours truly is one of them.
another year whereby the government
of the ward finds it exciting to put
yours truly as the bait for those
piranha auditors.
yet ANOTHER ROUND OF TRAINING.

i still have a Journal Presentation
and Clinical Teaching
to prepare for.

everytime i face job-related difficulties,
i tell myself that somehow,
some day,
i'd prove to those people
that nursing is more than
JUST nursing.
it's a reputable profession.

but some nurses just bring down
the reputation of the job itself.
that, i shall talk about on
another day...
