It has been a while since the parents have given one of The Lectures.
I guess, from the very beginning, The Lectures are used sparingly to preserve the dramatic impact.
Research in torture and torment methodology indicates that overuse of any particular technique can dull its effect.
For instance, in the seventies, students were exposed to screechy nails on chalkboards for hours at a time.
The result?
The subjects learnt to tolerate, ignore, and even enjoy the sound, finally setting it to a beat.
Hence, the birth of Heavy Metal.
Or maybe the parents just can't find anything to incorporate in The Lectures.
Maybe, just maybe cos I've not done anything that's particularly wrong.
Some might be wondering what's the difference between naggings and The Lectures.
For my household, naggings are a normal (near) daily affair.
Like how bad habits are developed, that's how the naggings in this household developed too.
The naggings, however, have taken quite a fair bit of evolutionary change.
It has definitely became longer and more unreasonable.
Usually ends up with any one of the family members locking themself up in their room.
Being the youngest and the smallest in size in this family, I have taken the liberty to lock myself up instead of hearing the constant naggings.
No, constant AND consistent, with pauses in between probably toilet breaks or prayer time (oh thank God!).
As for The Lectures, each family member has to present.
Somewhat like those formal business meetings, lacking the Armani coats and whatnots.
And like those meetings, it gets pretty boring and draggy.
Suddenly, the things you believed that were non-existant in the house suddenly caught your attention.
Like that useless piece of junk which they usually give at weddings.
Believe you me, you wouldn't want to sit through The Lectures.
Thank God (again.) that The Lectures have ceased.
For the time being.
